• Shorter is better – Tweets that are 100 characters or less had 17% more engagement

• People like Hash Tags – Tweets with hash tags saw twice as much engagement

Have you wondered how Social Media Can Help You Grow Your Business??

We are often  asked,  “How Can Social Media Help Me or My business?”  We wanted to answer this by sharing with you some results that were seen recently due to Social Media sharing.

A church we have been working with recently has begun to embrace Social Media because they see the value in reaching out and connecting with the current members of the church as well as others in the area that may be looking for a church to call home.

One Sunday morning the pastor of this church was preaching a great sermon and a portion of this sermon was caught on video.  This clip was shared on Facebook and the next week that particular service had a 38% increase in the number that attended.  This translated to an increase of about 50 people in just one of the services that are offered at this church on Sunday.

The pastor of this church did do something when he realized he was being videoed that helped, he stopped and encouraged the congregation to share and post on Facebook their thoughts and comments about the service.

This is just one example on how Social Media can help you grow.

Here is the video that was posted socially that resulted in the 38% increases in attendance the following week:

Are You Managing Your Social Media Reputation?

Are You Managing Your Social Media Reputation?

Social Media has become a huge component in the marketing mix and reputation management component for businesses.  Creating a presence on the Social Media Channels that are relevant for your brand will allow you to improve your online presence, connect with prospects and customers, respond to any negative publicity and also monitor the conversation to prevent any crises.

One thing that all business should do is perform a Google search and verify that your social media profiles such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube show up in the first 10 results.  If they don’t show up, a plan to ensure that they do should be put in place.

A plan to ensure your Social Media profiles are showing up in a Google search on your name should include the following components:

  • Verify you have profiles established on the relevant channels
  • Ensure that your Social Media Profiles are listed on your website
  • Begin to share and engage your customers on these networks
    • Share articles, ask questions, respond to comments, share funny photos if relevant on Facebook
    • Reach out to others on Twitter, listen to the conversation and respond, send Twitter only specials
    • Post regular updates on LinkedIn and share in groups when appropriate
    • Create Videos on YouTube and share with your target audience on Twitter and Facebook too
    • Establish a presence on Google+ and begin to engage with your prospects – maybe even start a Google+ Hangout

Our Friends at The Social Media Examiner recently posted a blog post that ties nicely into this topic – 3 Tips to Manage Your Social Media Reputation.  It is worth a read as well.

Tools – Social Networks – which ones do I need to be on?

Tools – Social Networks – which ones do I need to be on?

Often we see businesses jump into Social Media and the first thing they do is join as many Social Networks as they can.  This is great for exposure, but if you can’t maintain your presence on all of these networks you are shooting yourself in the foot.

So just how many social networks are out there?

There are 100’s of sites out there.  One site you can visit to get an idea of how many are available to you is http://namechk.com/ – this site will also allow you to see if your userid is available on these networks.

Here is another link that lists out over a thousand social networks that are available as well.  http://www.answers.com/topic/list-of-social-networking-websites

With so many social networks out there how many should you be on?

We always suggest that businesses start with the following social networks:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Pinterest ( the latest hot new comer)
  • LinkedIn ( note: if you are a B2C company like a restaurant this one isn’t as important)
  • YouTube ( note: this one is optional too and can be added in)
  • Google+ ( note: this network has great potential for SEO proposes, however it can be added later)

Starting with these networks will allow you to get your feet wet and begin working them into your strategy so that you can increase your reach and exposure over time.

If six networks are a bit scary right now I would suggest that you start with Facebook and Twitter and then add the others over time.

There will always be thousands of networks out there that you can use, but you need to be effective and to truly be effective you cannot jump into social media on thousands of sites and be a rock star.

What Is Social Media SEO?

Social Media and the impact on SEO

In times past, search engine optimization (aka SEO) and social media wouldn’t have been used in the same sentence. After all, search engine optimization comprises techniques designed to help boost one’s search engine rank placement and social media sites, like Facebook, allow you to connect with your friends or customers in a “social” way.

However, recent changes by both Google and Bing make it clear that these major search engines are looking to social media sites as a way to validate the quality of the content found on websites. Those that make the grade are being rewarded with improved search engine rankings… even in “regular” search.

While there are some differences in the way Google and Bing are using information from social media sites to adjust their indexes, there are many similarities. The search engines are looking at the “authority” of the account holder and placing more importance on any links posted on sites like Twitter and Facebook.

While the links themselves may be “no follow” links, that isn’t stopping the search engines from adjusting the indexes and increasing the search engine rank placement for the web pages they point to. In fact, some have said that it appears as though “retweets” are the new form of linkbuilding.

Both Google and Bing are looking at the frequency that a particular link is posted (or re-posted) on the social media sites and are also paying attention to who is doing the posting. If your links are being posted by an individual or business that is considered to be an authority by the search engines, the associated web page may see a boost in its search engine ranking.

This development validates what many marketing experts have believed for more than a year now;  Social media’s importance is growing  in the eyes of the search engines and this trend will likely continue. It’s well known that Google places a premium on relevant content and quality sites and pages so it should come as no surprise that they are tracking the number of people who liked your content well enough to share it with others.

Those who would like to take advantage of these new search engine trends are encouraged to make it as easy as possible for others to share their content or the links they contain. Adding a “retweet” function to your website or blog, for example, can dramatically increase the likelihood that your content will be shared by your visitors via Twitter.

Social Media – Is it Hype or truly a money maker for your business

case studies for social media Everywhere you turn you are hearing about Social Media and how your business MUST use it to grow and connect with your current and prospective customers and clients.  Unfortunately, however many businesses don’t grasp the power of using Social Media right away and sometimes wonder if the effort of getting on board and getting started is worth it.

We have seen several clients grow their base of Fans and followers and then in turn convert these connections into either new customers or repeat customers from Social Media efforts.  It does however sometimes take a 3-6 month period to begin to build a loyal following and truly convert these supporters to trusting loyal customers.

Today we wanted to share some  great case studies of companies that have embraced Social Media and show the success and profit they have gained from these efforts.

The first example of success is from a business called Healthy Horizons Breastfeeding Center.  This company is now getting about 15% of their business from social networking activities.  You can read more about this Social Media Success story from this USA Today article.

The Crème Brulee Man is another great example of a small business successfully using Social Media.  The Crème Brulee Man operates a food cart and in just over a year now has over 12,000 followers on Twitter.  Every day he announces his location for the day via Twitter.  You can check out his Twitter account at http://twitter.com/cremebruleecart.

Dr. Irenea Vaksman is a Dentist that has done a great job of embracing Social Media and using it to grow her practice.  Dr Irena Vaksman has deployed the following Social Media tools to take advantage of the power of Social Media: a Blog, Facebook Page, Twitter Profile and a YouTube Channel.

Hopefully looking at the above case studies of success with Social Media will convince you that it is not just hype and it can and is a money making and business growing activity.

Social Media Tip – LinkedIn

Today's tip is all about LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a business network that is meant primarily for business professionals as a place to connect with one another and market tier products and services in a (B2B) business to business environment.

It’s a great way to connect and network with business owners and people in a mutually beneficial way!

You can add links to your websites, blogs and other social profiles. You can also set up groups that are similar to Facebook fan pages, and you can also have other recommend your services in exchange for you recommending theirs.

LinkedIn also has a lot of authority on Google and other popular search engines. If you currently have a LinkedIn profile, try doing a search for yourself on Google. There is a good bet that it will show up on the first page of results.

That is authority ranking and you don't want to miss out on it!

That ends today’s quick tip
