Setting up a Facebook fan page can get rather complicated these days.  There are so many different add-on's and gadgets it can get a bit confusing.  In this post we will examine all the different bells and whistles you can add to make your page fun.

You know the basics of setting up your page.  You add your logo, some basic information, your website.  But now Facebook allows business pages to have apps.  There are hundreds of apps now that you can add to your page.  You can do some simple things like have a welcome page inticing people to like your page.  Or more complicated items like RSS feeds to e-commerce to exclusive promotions to coupons to contests.  Anything you could possible want to do on a Facebook and probably some things you've never even thought of.

Coupons and exclusive promotions are great ways not only to get more visitors to your page but also it is an incentive to get them to actually purchase.  Plus it will allow you to track just how effective your Facebook page really is. 

Contests are also a great way to get people involved in your page.  You can offer free merchandise or discounts as a prize.  However these can get very complicated to monitor.  The apps will help you monitor and select a winner. 

You can find these apps generally simple by Googling Facebook business page apps.  However, a word of caution.  Make sure you select apps that have good reviews and clear instructions.  Remember these apps are not made by Facebook, but by third party developers.

Previously grabbing a copy of your Facebook information and data required using a third party service or application.  Now it is possible to take care of this right from Facebook.  The following steps will allow you to download your Facebook data:

Go to

Account –> Account Settings –> Download –> Learn More.

This will take you to an information screen and provide a Download button.

Once it is completed you will receive an email with a link to download the zip file of your data in your Facebook account. 

One downside is that it will not include photos that your friends uploaded and tagged you in or email addresses of your friends – but it does include a lot of other data

Customize your Facebook Profile for Branding

Facebook is a great tool to use for marketing and branding for both businesses and individuals.  Depending on what your focus is you may opt to build your network with a personal Facebook profile verses a Business Facebook Page.

If you choose to use a personal profile there is a new application that you can use to tweak your profile and help strengthen your personal brand.

Schwepps the beverage company has created this application and made it available to you for use.  It is called “Profile Yourself” and it gives you the ability to run a giant photo via multiple windows on your profile page.

Today's tip is all about LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a business network that is meant primarily for business professionals as a place to connect with one another and market tier products and services in a (B2B) business to business environment.

It’s a great way to connect and network with business owners and people in a mutually beneficial way!

You can add links to your websites, blogs and other social profiles. You can also set up groups that are similar to Facebook fan pages, and you can also have other recommend your services in exchange for you recommending theirs.

LinkedIn also has a lot of authority on Google and other popular search engines. If you currently have a LinkedIn profile, try doing a search for yourself on Google. There is a good bet that it will show up on the first page of results.

That is authority ranking and you don't want to miss out on it!

Social Media is one of our favorite tools for our clients to use to start reaching the right prospects and turning them into customers and then into cheer leaders for their business.  Getting started with Social Media however can be over whelming to some because although most of the tools are free they do take time to implement, manage and build the community you are building.

Here are some tips that you can use to help effectively manage your time as you embark in using Social Media in your business.

Schedule time for your Social Media Activities

It is a good idea to block out daily time slots to focus on your social media efforts.  In these time blocks focus your time to take care of your Social Media activities.  Reply to any questions you have from followers on Facebook and Twitter.  Read through content of those you follow and take a few minutes to comment on relevant content and to share this with others in your network.  Now is also a good time to share a status update as to what you are up to – be personal.  Remember you should share about 80-90% of content and information and only 10-20% should be sales.

Use tools to Manager your Social Media Activities

There are several tools that you can use to manage your Social Media activities.  These will allow you to be able to monitor what is being said about you and your products or services and to listen for a need.  There are also tools that you can use to schedule your activities.

The following tools are some of our favorites:

Hootsuite: A dashboard tool you can use to manage your postings to multiple networks which include Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.  Hootsuite also lets you schedule your postings and to search for items with particular keywords.  It is a great tool!

Social Mention is a very valuable tool to be able to keep a real time pulse on mentions of your company, brand or any other key words you which to watch in the social scene.
